Nominee's Bio: Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa is an award winning climate activist and Convener of The Green Republic Project, a youth-driven grassroots organization committed to climate action through the planting of trees as a natural remedy. The 2019 recipient of the Shinning World Protection Award from the Headquarters Supreme Master Ching Hai organization of the United States has been a dedicated voice to rallying youth support for national and global efforts at overcoming the climate crisis. He lead the launch of The Green Republic Project in 2018 as a direct response to the climate crisis and setting a goal of helping plant 20million trees by the year 2028. Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa strongly believes that trees are central to the climate fight due to its natural capacity to absorb carbons and process that into oxygen which humanity needs to survive. To date he has led the organization to plant over 16,000 trees in various parts of Ghana with the Northern region being its focus. Through his instrumental leadership landscapes are changing. In his bid to help hasten the country's reforestation drive, Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa embarked on a drive to get Ghana set up a National Tree Planting Day where every Ghanaian led by the President will step out to plant a tree in a well coordinated manner. He took this campaign to the door step of the media with interviews on TV3, Citi TV, print media publications in BFT, Ghanaian Times, Daily Graphic, among several others. Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa has through this advocacy for a National Tree Planting Day heavily impacted Ghana after government decided to implement such a day with the launch of the Green Ghana Day which comes off on June 11th 2021. He underscored the critical importance of such a day on a much bigger platform when he spoke at the October 2019 Global Lanscapes Forum held in Accra. Here he forcefully encouraged all African Nations to institute such a day which the government of Ghana has already launched after tabling a proposal. THIS IS BIG IMPACT. Before speaking at the 2019 Global Landscapes Forum in Accra, Nana was also a speaker at the December 2018 Global Landscapes Forum in Bonn, Germany where he likened the climate crisis to a form of war humanity needed to win by reconciling humanity with nature through restoration.
